Madrid Tapas Tour
Tapas, Wine and Fun
When you think Spanish food, you often think Spanish Tapas. According to one source (and there are many!) tapas first originated in Andalucia when sherry drinkers covered their drinks with slices of bread to prevent fruit flies drinking their tipple. The story goes that the resourceful bartenders spotted an opportunity and started to put small snacks on pieces of bread.
Madrid's bars and tabernas are well-known for their tapas - the city even holds an annual Feria de Tapas! In many of its bars you will find a wide variety of tapas, from olives, squid, chorizo and fried green peppers to prawns, anchovies, jamón and cheese. There is nothing quite like drinking a caña (small glass of beer) or wine and eating a tapa - it is so.... civilised!
What Have We Got On Offer?
Come stroll with us down Madrid's historic streets, stopping in at 3 or 4 bars to try a variety of the traditional and some newer flavors of Spain. At each stop you will have a glass of wine, glass of beer or something similar along with a selection of tapas. Over this time you will learn something of the history of tapas; experience the tastes and atmosphere of the Spanish "tapeo" and also learn something about the wine and food of the distinct regions of Spain.
Many of the places that we go to are well off the tourist route and we like to keep them secret for our friends. We do different tapas tours routes that we try to gear towards your interests. Let us know if you are interested in the more typical, traditional tapas or another route which ensures better wines and more eclectic tapas.
